Training & Coaching in Council for Chaplains, for Staff, for Residents
Pioneering work and research carried out in the Californian Correctional System by the Center for Council, [more info here] has demonstrated beyond doubt that Council has the ability to transform the lives of all those within the prison system. |
True Circles is now working to bring the benefits of Council into the UK prison environment.
Learning and then practicing Council over a sustained period builds self-awareness, reflection, and empathy, while developing communications skills, interpersonal skills, and resilience. The results are improved well-being and mental health, reduced violence, self-harm, and suicide, along with reduced re-offending on release. [Click here to see research findings from the US]
These programs are best suited to long-term prisoners, who are able to develop their practice over time and see lasting change. We prefer to work in collaboration with the on-site Chaplains and Imams as this draws on (and deepens) their existing relationships, and maximises our ability to fit within existing prison timetables and structures, thus minimising the impact on resources.
We are working to secure external funding to allow us to bring the benefits of Council circles to the UK prison environments, at low or zero cost to the establishment.
