Programs offered by True Circles:
Workshops & Trainings

Introduction to the Practice of Council
A 2-day workshop that allows you to experience this powerful set of group practices, and to learn the basics of facilitating your own Council circles.
This is experiential learning, where we learn by doing, gradually going deeper as our skills and confidence grow.
"The best teacher of Council, is Council" - Jared Seide, Center for Council
Typically offered over a weekend, this workshop takes groups of 8-16 people on a journey of discovery, relearning long-forgotten arts of deep listening, honest speaking, shared vulnerability, and group solidarity.
Come and learn the essential elements of Council, its uses and benefits, its history, and its many forms & styles that enable it to adapt to different groups and situations. Discover first-hand the mind-set (heart-set?), skills, and aptitudes needed to facilitate Council circles that are safe and effective.

Training & Coaching in Council for Chaplains, for Staff, for Residents
Pioneering work and research carried out in the Californian Correctional System by the Center for Council, [more info here] has demonstrated beyond doubt that Council has the ability to transform the lives of all those within the prison system. |
True Circles is now working to bring the benefits of Council into the UK prison environment.
Learning and then practicing Council over a sustained period builds self-awareness, reflection, and empathy, while developing communications skills, interpersonal skills, and resilience. The results are improved well-being and mental health, reduced violence, self-harm, and suicide, along with reduced re-offending on release. [Click here to see research findings from the US]
These programs are best suited to long-term prisoners, who are able to develop their practice over time and see lasting change. We prefer to work in collaboration with the on-site Chaplains and Imams as this draws on (and deepens) their existing relationships, and maximises our ability to fit within existing prison timetables and structures, thus minimising the impact on resources.
We are working to secure external funding to allow us to bring the benefits of Council circles to the UK prison environments, at low or zero cost to the establishment.

Programs for Social Enterprises, Communities, & (sustainable) Businesses
Bespoke programs in Council for:
community-building; purpose-identification; visioning; conflict-exploration; decision-making; engagement; communication. Make Council a core practice within your organisation. A regular practice of Council - or a facilitated series of Councils to address a specific issue or key decision - can make a huge difference to the engagement, harmony, creativity, and authenticity available to your organisation. |
Every human group, over time, will experience frustrations, crossed wires, tensions, missed cues, and stifled creativity. It's inevitable. What's needed then, is a set of practices designed and honed to bring these things into the light, safely, fully, and constructively.
We can work with you to craft and guide an intervention to meet a specific challenge, or train and coach your people to embed Council into the fabric of your organisation.
